A new Hindu religious organisation, the Sanatan Dharm Fiji Sabha, has been officially inaugurated, becoming the second national Sanatan body in Fiji alongside the long-established Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji.
The inaugural ceremony was held yesterday at the Kings Complex in Nausori and was attended by the High Commissioner of India to Fiji, Suneet Mehta, who officially launched the Sabha by unveiling a commemorative plaque. Minister for Employment Agni Deo Singh was also present.
Addressing members at the launch, President and Co-founder Ratnesh Kumar Bhawan said the new organisation aimed to bring fresh ideas while preserving the values of Sanatan Dharma for future generations.
“This is a new Sanatan with new ideas for our future generations,” he said.
“We want everyone’s ideas and love to move forward.”
Bhawan said the new body would encourage collective leadership and service rather than the pursuit of positions of authority.
“You must be wondering why I am standing here as the president. We have a lot of educated people with us who love Sanatan. I am here to serve and not hold a position.”
He said leadership should never become permanent or centred on individuals.
“Sometimes when we take positions, we love that too much and we refuse to leave it.”
Bhawan stressed that the new Sabha would not be afraid to embrace change or make decisions in the interests of the wider Hindu community.
“This Sanatan body is not that type of body which will be scared,” he said.
