New rates for phone users

MOBILE phone users are expected to benefit from the new rates announced by the Fiji Commerce Commission yesterday, which saw call costs drop by up to 45 per cent.

The commission said operators must comply with the new regulation relating to the way customers were charged for calling other networks.

Digicel CEO Darren McLean applauded the commission’s determination this week in making a decision that was positive for mobile customers in Fiji.

He said the new rates had significantly stifled competition in the mobile phone market.

Up until yesterday, a one second call from Vodafone to Digicel cost 42 cents. The new rates now mean mobile phone users will be charged up to 24 cents for a 30-second call made to another network.
