Some newly-recruited police constables in Suva have not been paid for the past three weeks.

Several constables who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that despite submitting all the required documents, their payments have not yet been processed.

They said the delay had caused them financial stress, especially those supporting families or renting in the city.

Responding to queries from this newspaper, Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu confirmed the delay in payment, and that the issue was caused by technical problems.

“There was a delay due to technical issues resulting in some newly-recruited special constables not receiving their pay for a three-week period,” he said, adding that he’s directed the accounts and finance team to fix the issue.

He said he would ensure the remaining officers receive their pay without further delay.
