A fully-fledged office for the Land Transport Authority costing $145,000 was officially opened at Waimalika, Nadi, on Thursday by Transport Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau.
The newly commissioned office also marked the launch of portable cameras that have been relocated from the Nadi Back Rd to the new facility.
In addition to the Waimalika office, the minister also inaugurated the Nadi Express office at Martintar, which cost $584,000.
“Nadi is seen as a high-volume area,” Ro Filipe said.
“So, it is very important that we have the facilities that can cater for this demand. Not only for the current volume, but also for future development.”
The minister emphasised the importance of forward planning and forecasting, particularly in terms of population growth, business development, and increasing numbers of vehicles on the road.
“Since joining the Government two years ago, this is something that seems to have been lacking,” he noted.
“We need to plan ahead, considering the population and the development we see around us.”
Ro Filipe also addressed concerns on the loss of agricultural land to business development, saying such criticisms could have positive impacts as evidenced in the developments taking place in Nadi.
There are 27,545 registered vehicles and 33,867 licensed drivers in Nadi.
