Nine-year-old Adi Vasemaca Raravisa received a new lease of life courtesy of the team at Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital.
She was one of the four patients discharged from the hospital yesterday after undergoing heart surgery. Speaking to this newspaper, Adi Vasemaca’s mother Adi Amerita Rabale said her daughter had been through quite a lot at a tender age.
In June this year, Adi Vasemaca developed a fever and was taken to a hospital in Suva and was later referred to the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital.
She was diagnosed after going through an echocardiogram, which revealed Adi Vasemaca had a hole in her heart.
Her first proposed date of surgery was scheduled in July. However, medical professionals later informed her parents that the procedure would have to be postponed as she needed to have a dental extraction.
The surgery was scheduled for September but was postponed once again after X-rays showed Adi Vasemaca had contracted pneumonia.
Adi Amerita said as a family, they never lost hope and continually prayed for their eldest daughter’s surgery and condition. After returning to the hospital in November, Vasemaca was cleared for surgery on November 29.
After a successful procedure, she will now be able to return to school and freely participate in more activities, which her parents say they look forward to.
