Good news for cane farmers as Government will provide new harvesting machines for hillside cane farms.
Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh will leave for China next week to arrange these machines.
“We will have four for the farmers in the West and two for the North and if it all works well, we will bring in more machines,” he said.
“These six machines will be brought in soon for farmers to use in this year’s harvesting season.
“The labour shortage has also affected cane harvesting.”
The harvesting machines currently used by farmers can only harvest cane on flat areas.
