A hilly terrain mechanical harvester will soon be put into service in Nabou, Ba.
Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh said this reaffirms the Coalition Government’s dedication to tackling the challenges faced by farmers on hilly and uneven terrains.
He added a specialized second hilly terrain harvester will soon arrive in Fiji as part of a research and development (R&D) project led by the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji (SRIF).
“We’ve heard your concerns, and we’re committed to providing solutions,” Singh said.
“The Coalition Government is determined to ease the burden on our hardworking farmers in the hills.”
Mr Singh added mechanization of the industry will reduce physical strain on farmers and address ongoing labour shortages in the cane belt.
The Ministry has approved the importation of the hilly harvester to be brought in by a private investor.
