Tremendous changes in their game approach is what Vusu Raiders captain Ereqe Batibasaga attributes their success to, as the team honoured its best players and celebrated wins in rugby league competitions around Fiji.

Batibasaga spoke to the media following the conclusion of the awards ceremony which was held at the Vineyard Palace Restaurant in Suva.

The team concluded their sporting calendar on a high note with wins in the Vodafone Cup, the Eastern State competition and the Fijian Cup nines.

“The team underwent a big change as most of the accolades we attained were different from how we fared in previous years,” Batibasaga stated.

“We started from our training as well as addressing the weaknesses picked out last year such as our discipline and the approach taken by the players when they came for training.”

He stated changes in their fitness level played a crucial role in the team’s stellar performance in the past year.

The Vusu Raiders team is made up of players from the last group of villages dotted along the Coral Coast in the Western Division.

The team were crowned champions of the Eastern State competition by defeating Navy Albatross 40-22 at Ratu Cakobau Park on Saturday, August 17.

Vusu also won the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup Championship after defeating Navy Albatross 20-10 at Ratu Cakobau Park on Saturday, September 28.

Another showdown with the Navy Albatross in the Fijian Cup nines competition at Lawaqa Park on Saturday, November 30 resulted in a 19-4 win for the Raiders.
