FIJI 7s coach Gareth Baber says the new format to do away with the quarter-finals for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournaments in Hamilton and Sydney will affect all participating teams.

The quarter-finals for the second leg of the series have been axed by World Rugby to allow the women’s competition to run alongside the men’s competition.

Baber has expressed disappointment with the change.

“It is not how I want to go through a tournament,” he said.

“I must admit that is how I see the world sevens series tournaments. I’m disappointed about it now but it is the same for everybody else.

“So irrespective of that, we have to go and win the pool and there are three games.

“Then the two games which are the semi-final and final to win the tournament.

“That is what we have done previously where it was six games so that pretty becomes our focus now.”
