The new Chief Justice of Fiji, Salesi Temo has taken his oath of office at Government House this morning.

President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu administered the oath in front of the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers and judicial officers.

Justice Temo was appointed to the post by the President on the advise of the Prime Minister.

According to the Constitution, if the President is absent Fiji, or for any reason unable to perform the functions of the President, or if the office of the President becomes vacant for any reason, then the functions of the office of the President shall be performed by the Chief Justice.

The Chief Justice is also the Chairperson of the Judicial Services Commission.
