New CEO for bank

PEOPLE do business with human beings, not companies, and people are the most valuable asset of a company. Business Editor GERALDINE PANAPASA introduces an executive who has taken up a new appointment to drive the performance of the institution he works for.

The ANZ Banking Group has welcomed the appointment of Jean Barbizet as the new CEO of ANZ France.

The move to the position, which was effective immediately, would see Mr Barbizet being responsible for relationships with large corporate, multi-national corporations and financial institutions.

He was previously CEO of Barclays Capital SA and managing director of the Investment Banking Division until 2012.

ANZ International and Institutional Banking CEO Andrew Geczy said Mr Barbizet was an experienced French banker with significant international and local experience.

He said they would have the benefit of the new CEO supporting customers wanting to do business in Asia.

Meanwhile, the bank had opened a branch in Paris as part of plans to expand its international network.

The branch was expected to provide wholesale banking services to French multi-national companies doing business in Asia Pacific.

“Given France’s strong historical, cultural and commercial ties with much of Asia, the establishment of a Paris branch is a logical next step in the development of our super regional strategy,” Mr Geczy said in a statement this week.
