The Fisheries Ministry handed over a new fiberglass boat and outboard engine to the Centre for Appropriate Technology Development (CATD) in Nadave, Tailevu yesterday.

Fisheries Minister Semi Koroilavesau said the boat and engine would be part of the institution’s educational package, enabling students to learn and engage in subsistence fishing.

During the handover,

Mr Koroilavesau said the implements would boost fisheries development activities in neighbouring communities and open opportunities for further collaboration on enforcement in coastal communities to deter illegal, unreported and unregulated activities.

The boat was funded by the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) through its Fisheries Development Fund.
