A NEW school block for Rabulu District School in Tavua was officially opened by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama on Thursday.
The $48,300 Year 5 classroom building was funded by the Small Grants Scheme through the Prime Minister’s office.
Mr Bainimarama said the assistance was an example of how the program allowed Government to assist communities in need.
“This program lets us keep our ear to the ground, identify the problems facing communities and then do something about them,” he said.
“It is a way that we have of responding directly to needs at the village level.
“This project has been a long time coming, so I thank you all for your patience.
“You requested this project and made a good proposal.” He said Government would continue to assist the 190 students attending the school.
“For 82 years, this school has faithfully served the villages of Kavuli, Rabulu, Balata, Yaqara, Viti Vanua, Naseyani, Draunivi, Togovere and Caboni.”
School headteacher Daniel Kumar said the school played an important role in providing education to children from nine villages.
“So having modern facilities was very important for us and we are grateful that our plea was answered,” he said.
