As the first light of dawn broke over Suva, a solemn hush fell across the Suva Military Cemetery in Lovonilase, where the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), national leaders, and members of the international community gathered to mark ANZAC Day and honour the fallen of Gallipoli in WWI.
The ceremony paid tribute to the sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand Defence Force personnel who served in the Gallipoli campaign in Türkiye in 1915, with participants reflecting on the shared legacy of military service, cooperation, and peacekeeping.
“They honoured the memory of the thousands of Australian and New Zealand Defence Force soldiers who served and gave their lives during the Gallipoli campaign in Türkiye,” RFMF said in a statement.
“ANZAC Day offers a moment for reflection on the shared legacy of military cooperation and peacekeeping throughout the Pacific. It serves as a solemn reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who serve and continue to serve in war, conflict, and peace operations.
“As dawn broke over Suva, the RFMF stood in solidarity with its regional partners in remembering the fallen and reaffirming its commitment to peace, unity, and service.”
Wreaths were laid during the ceremony as participants stood in silence, honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The occasion reinforced Fiji’s continued commitment to peacekeeping, unity, and remembrance across the region.
