WORLD Rugby is still evaluating the bids from 17 cities to host 10 events of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in the 2019-20 season.

This was confirmed to this newspaper by World Rugby CEO Brett Gosper.

“Fiji have made an excellent bid for a world series leg,” Gosper said.

“We are evaluating the competitive bids currently. The difficulty is that we are not adding legs.

“There will be 10 events as is the case now so competition is very tough with 17 cities tendering.”

Gosper said this season’s world sevens series was one of the best he had seen in recent years.

“It was decided in the very last match. South Africa had to win the final against England to win the series unfortunately for Fiji they did just that!

“The current Fiji team is perhaps the best I have seen. They won four places in the season Dream Team 7s and won more tournaments this year than any team. At their best they are unbeatable.”

Gosper has picked captain Jerry Tuwai as his best player this season.
