A SIGNIFICANT landmark at Vuda in Lautoka, will now be the home of the Vuda Hideaway Resort.
This after the Fiji Teachers Union’s Co-oporative Thrift and Credit Limited decided to invest $40million in the construction of 20 upmarket bure.
Board chairman Agni Deo Singh said the project was in its initial stage and would take 12 months to complete.
“The first stage will cost a little over $4million,” he said.
“We are targeting a four-point-five star rating and this is going to be exclusively for couples.”
Mr Singh said the resort would also have a wedding chapel.
“Things are looking very promising in Australia and New Zealand and our marketing staff in these countries have assured us this will be a great destination for tourists.
“Occupancy is not going to be a problem.”
The board expects the resort to be completed in five years.
“This is an excellent development for tourism — it’s our second investment as we bought Fiji Hideaway Resort four years ago, which is running at a very stable pace right now.”
Situated on a 12-acre piece of land, the resort will become a major source of income for the people of Vuda, which Mr Singh said would employ 40 people in the initial stages.
“Once the resort is up and running, we will employ about 150 to 200 people.
“We are very thankful to the people of Vuda for accepting us and welcoming this investment.”
