THE walk out of the 15 netball associations now leaves one questioning what the future of the sport will be.
The 15 have outrightly stated through Suva Netball president Alumeci Sachs that they will no longer be part of any Netball Fiji sanctioned competition.
“Right now, all the Pearls comes from Suva, so they are all in discussion now and they must find a way forward for all of us because if not, 15 out of 19 associations have walked out so who is Netball Fiji going to look after now? Without us they are nothing.” Sach said on behalf of the other associations.
Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki now has the difficult task of mapping a way forward that keeps the sport viable.
“Netball Fiji will always go down the path where the sport is priority, so we are going to sit, and I’ve asked the committee to sit back with me and just talk about what that means for us as a sport. It’s not a good thing but we still need to go into it with good faith and continue to try and engage because the sport is our number one priority.
“It’s huge. If we don’t resolve this well the players can choose to play for other districts but its outside of our control, I can’t pre-empt what’s going to happen but all I can speak to is what is within our confines as Netball Fiji to work on and what we feel is important to focus on right now and it is not to split the sport, that’s for sure,” Sorovaki said.
The Netball Fiji president added that she will seek the advice of World Netball as well as Oceania Netball who are aware of the issue at hand.
