Divisional stakeholder and public consultations for Fiji’s Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC3.0) Costed Implementation Plan (CIP) officially began at the Tanoa Waterfront in Lautoka yesterday.
The consultations mark a critical step in defining Fiji’s low greenhouse gas emissions development pathway for the next decade, spanning 2025 to 2035.
Speaking at the opening, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change senior climate change officer for mitigation Reeha Sharma said the process translated national commitments into localised, actionable projects.
“Now, we are taking those national commitments and turning them into specific activities, clear investment opportunities, and real projects that can make a difference in the lives of our people,” she said.
The Lautoka workshop builds on last month’s divisional socialisation workshops and recent Technical Working Group meetings to ensure local priorities are fully integrated into the final implementation plan.
“Today’s (yesterday’s) discussions will engage divisional stakeholders and public in discussions to contextualise NDC3.0 priorities at the local level; identify sectoral pathways for translating NDC targets into actionable and costed projects; and strengthen ownership and inclusivity by involving diverse stakeholders in shaping Fiji’s climate action journey.
“By working together to explore these pathways, we aim to advance a just and sustainable energy transition that supports Fiji’s development goals and contributes to global efforts to limit the temperature rise to well below 1.5 degrees Celcius.”
