Former Flying Fijians skipper Waisea Nayacalevu has recently signed a one-year contract with the Sale Sharks Rugby club in the UK.

The 33-year-old veteran will replace England’s star centre Manu Tuilagi and will feature for the club in June.

It is believed Tuilagi is leaving because of salary cap constraints.

Nayacalevu, who was a standout player for Fiji during the Rugby World Cup last year, helped lead his team to the quarter-finals for the first time in over a decade.

His impressive performance caught the attention of Sale Sharks, who are excited to welcome him to the team.

“The opportunity came by through my agent who told me that there’s an English club interested in signing me, and it’s one of the things I wanted to achieve as a rugby player, to experience rugby outside of France,” said Nayacalevu.

“I’ve been in France for the past decade, and it was always in the back of my mind. For that I’m so grateful to the organisation and the club for the opportunity.

“I have signed a one-year contract with Sales Sharks, one the big clubs in the UK, and I’m excited to join them, the club is well organised.

“I am looking forward to learning and sharing my experience, giving my best as well, and getting to know everyone, I’m hoping to improve myself every day and learn as I journey along.”

Nayacalevu expressed his appreciation to his supporters in Fiji for their love and encouragement.
