A daughter of Nasinu, Cakaudrove is proud to be back at home to help the people of Vanua Levu pick up the pieces and rebuild from the devastation caused by STC Yasa.

Michelle Vocea is a rating seaman CIS aboard HMAS Adelaide that arrived in Suva yesterday to load humanitarian and relief supplies for transport to Vanua Levu.

“I’m very grateful to be given this opportunity to come back and help the people of Vanua Levu,” said Ms Vocea.

My father is Savenaca Vocea from Nasinu in Natewa Bay and it means a great deal for me to be here, she said.

She has served in the Australian Navy for the past five years and says it is not just a place for men.

“I think there is no difference between men and women in the navy. It is a great career path and I’m glad I chose it.

“It has given me so many opportunities and I get to travel.”

She said no one should be limited by their gender and that anyone could join if they wanted to.

“If it’s something you want to do, just do it!”
