NAVUA FC is placing its belief in identity, discipline and structure when it takes on tournament favourites Lautoka FC in the BiC Fiji FACT semi-final today at 4.30pm at Subrail Park.
Head coach Rodicks Singh has kept Navua’s focus on preparations and execution this week as the side builds towards the semi-finals.
“The team has prepared well,” Singh said.
“I think we just fine-tuned whatever we saw we should have been working on in the pool matches.
“We know semi-finals are knockout football, and we cannot take the risk. It’s a take-it-or-lose-it situation, and we made sure we touched on all the areas that we needed to.”
Rather than being drawn into talking about Lautoka’s credentials, Singh kept his attention on Navua’s ability to control its own game.
The side has been encouraged by its performances throughout the tournament, particularly its ability to retain possession, stay organised, and build confidence through structure rather than reacting to opponents.
“The most satisfying part is how Navua is going about its business, keeping possession and playing football. We are actually doing what we want to do. We are playing like we train.”
While Lautoka enters the semi-final after a strong group stage campaign, Singh insisted the challenge is not about adjusting to the opponent, but about maintaining discipline in key moments.
“We need to be consistent in how we have been playing, keep the ball, find holes in their defence and score goals. At the same time, we need to stay compact and not let Lautoka score.”
That clarity of approach has been central to Navua’s rise through the tournament, with belief growing quietly within the camp after progressing from a difficult pool stage.
“The team has everything required to be in the final, but we do not want to jump the gun. Lautoka is a strong side and on the day (today) we need to be at our best to see ourselves in the final.”
For Navua, today is not just a semi-final; it is a test of whether discipline, patience, and trust in its system can outweigh experience and reputation.
A place in tomorrow’s final at Subrail Park awaits the winner.
