A promising talent, Maleli Nauvasi has been selected to join the Fijian Drua development program.
His exceptional performance in the Vodafone Deans competition, where he helped Queen Victoria School clinch the under-18 title this year, caught the attention of the Drua selectors.
Nauvasi’s standout display in the final against Nasinu Secondary School earned him the Player of the Match award.
Nauvasi’s skills were further showcased when he represented the Fiji Schoolboys U18 team in two victories against the Australia Schoolboys U18.
His versatility on the field, playing positions like flyhalf, wing, and fullback during his time at QVS, demonstrates his adaptability and talent.
Expressing his excitement about joining the Drua Development program, Nauvasi mentioned his enthusiasm to be part of the team and his gratitude for the opportunity.
Ifereimi Rawaqa, the Fijian Drua development and skills coach, praised the Dratabu villager in Nadi for his natural talent, discipline, and standout performances, expressing confidence in his potential to excel in the professional realm.
“I’m delighted to welcome Maleli Nauvasi to our Drua development program, he has shown exceptional promise, not only with his natural talent but also with his discipline on the field,” Rawaqa said.
“Nauvasi has proven himself as a standout performer in the Deans and also in the Fiji Schoolboys U18, we are excited to be part of his continued growth and journey in rugby.”
Fijian Drua general manager Baden Stephenson emphasised the significance of Nauvasi’s signing, given the interest he attracted from overseas clubs.
Nauvasi’s decision to stay with the Drua highlights his commitment to the club and desire to progress from the U18 level to the Flying Fijians.
He joins a group of 10 other talented young players in the Drua development squad.
This development opportunity includes a salary, training with the Super Rugby Pacific squad, and participation in provincial competitions like the Skipper Cup alongside Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific.
The program aims to provide the necessary resources, coaching, and environment for these players to transition to the professional level and make a significant impact in the future.
