Update: 1:59PM GOVERNMENT’S commitment to assisting women and children will be reflected in the $52.2 million to the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation in the 2016 National Budget.
In making the announcement in Parliament this morning, Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the allocation
included an increase of $2million towards a child protection allowance.
“This is designed to provide care for disadvantaged
children,” he said.
“That allocation is now $3.2million and an additional
$500,000 is provided for the child protection program which involves awareness
programs and implements the recommendations of the conventions on the rights of
a child.”
