NATIONAL airline Fiji Airways has officially welcomed its first of five Boeing 737 MAX 8s.
Arriving at midday at the Fiji Airways hangar in Nadi, the new aircraft was accorded a traditional welcome ceremony by the people of Kadavu and airline staff.
Fiji Airways managing director Andre Viljoen said with the inclusion of this aircraft, the national airline would become one of the youngest fleets in the world.
He said he was proud of the achievement of the airline and its staff for this momentous achievement.
The airline plans to take delivery of another four 737 MAX planes by the end of 2019.
The aircraft adds to the national airline’s existing fleet of 737 Next Generation aircraft, which consists of four 737-800s and a sole 737-700.
