Nasove savours rugby call

Fijian Drua flanker Rusiate Nasove, 29, is a championship closer to achieving his childhood dream. Since young, the Narewa native in Waicoba, Nadroga-Navosa had wanted to play for the Flying Fijians team.

After playing two games in the inaugural Super Rugby Pacific competition this season, the former Sigatoka policeman was among 16 Fijian Drua players to be selected into the national squad for next month’s Pacific Rugby Cup.

“This is the first time I am called to join the Flying Fijians. It is another step up. I will go in there and learn as much as I can from some of the senior players,” he said.

“I will try and get a lot of experience because rugby nowadays is being played at another level.

It is about playing smart rugby. It is about being smarter than the rest to be the best.

“Playing for Fiji is a different feeling. I wear my jersey with pride and I always get emotional when I put it on because I know I am playing for my future, my family, our fans and most importantly, my country and all Fijians in the word.”

The PNC Round 1 kicks off on July 2 in Suva. Rounds 2 and 3 will be held in Lautoka on July 9 and 16 respectively.

Fijian Drua players selected; The players are props Haereiti Hetet and Manasa Saulo, hookers Mesulame Dolokoto and Tevita Ikanivere, locks Isoa Nasilasila and Ratu Rotuisolia, loose forwards Te Ahiwaru Cirikidaveta and Rusiate Nasove, halfbacks Frank Lomani, Simione Kuruvoli and Peni Matawalu, flyhalf Teti Tela, centres Kalaveti Ravouvou and Apisalome Vota and outside backs Vinaya Habosi and Ilaisa Droasese.
