INVESTING in young players has become a key focus for the Nasinu women’s rugby team as the club continues their campaign in the Subrails Marama Cup championship.
Nasinu Women are building for the future by developing their own players, with coach Tomasi Katonivualiku acknowledging the hard work of his coaching staff in grooming young talent for the game.
Katonivualiku said the team had a few young players who were being nurtured to reach their full potential, as Nasinu continued its contribution to the development of women’s rugby in Fiji.
“I thank the coaching staff for the work they put in.They work hard in breeding and grooming our players to become the best version of themselves,” he said.
Nasinu has produced a few players who have gone on to represent the Vodafone Fijiana XV, highlighting the team’s role in developing talent for the national side.
Katonivualiku said the work of the coaching staff was important in helping players improve their skills, build confidence and develop their abilities on and off the field.
The team’s focus on developing young players comes as Nasinu continues its campaign in the Marama Cup championship.
Nasinu secured a 36-20 victory over Naitasiri last Saturday, with the result keeping its push for a place in the top eight alive.
Despite several players battling the flu, Katonivualiku praised the team’s determination and commitment to achieving its target.
He said the players remained focused on the task and responded well after going into halftime behind.
The coach also acknowledged the support of parents and thanked Nasinu Rugby for providing the opportunity for the women to showcase their talent.
For Nasinu, the focus extends beyond results, with the coaching staff continuing to groom young players and provide opportunities for them to grow in the sport.
Nasinu sits at fifth place in the latest competition standings released earlier this week.
At fifth, they have since accumulated 23 points, while behind Tailevu with 26, Nadi in third with 28, Suva in second with 30 and Namosi leading with 35 points.
Nasinu faces Rewa at 11am today, at the Burebasaga School Ground.
