SERA Nasilivata, the junior girls athlete of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School (MGM) who broke a 32-year-old record at this year’s Coca-Cola Games, has been named in the final list for Team Fiji to the Pacific Mini Games in Palau next month.

This is after the final list of athletes and officials was named by FASANOC at the Fiji Olympic House in Suva yesterday.

Nasilivata’s inclusion in the national contingent comes after she set a new record of 12.30s in the junior girls 100m event of the Coca-Cola Games, breaking the 1993 record of 12.34s set by Masilina Rakai of Ba Methodist High School.

Her finishing time beat the time set by the winners of the sub-junior, intermediate and senior girls 100m events.

The winner of the sub-junior girls 100m final, Veniana Ranadi of MGM had set a time of 12.68s.

Intermediate girls 100m final winner Lidia Waqairapoa of MGM set a time of 12.51s while in the senior category, Claudie David of Suva Grammar School ran a time of 12.63s. She also won the junior girls 200m event with a time of 24.98s.

Meanwhile, in the final team list for the Pacific Mini Games, Nasilivata joins 39 other athletes and eight coaches representing athletics. Other athletes who made stand-out appearances at this year’s Coca-Cola Games have been named in the final team to Palau. They include overall best female athlete Gladness Simpson of MGM, Loata Lewageena of Ratu Sukuna Memorial School, Adi Ceva Lutumailagi of Natabua High School, Brienna Rabakewa of Swami Vivekananada College and Waisiki Komainaqoro of Yat Sen Secondary School.

In announcing the names for Team Fiji, Chef de Mission Josaia Tuinamata spoke of the enthusiasm behind the selection.

“This announcement is not just a list of names – it’s a celebration of months of preparation, perseverance and passion,” Tuinamata said.

The national delegation will leave Fiji on June 27 and will return on July 10.
