Nasilai villagers lift taboo on traditional fishing ground

SIX years ago villagers of Nasilai in Nakelo , Tailevu were informed that its traditional fishing ground showed signs of a decrease in fish stock.

Through the advise of the Ministry of Fisheries, the village agreed that a certain section of its qoliqoli be considered a marine protected area.

The five years area considered tabu, was this morning lifted, a day that is anticipated to be a grand celebration for not only the villagers of Nasilai but also the vanua o Rara o Nakelo.

The Tui Nakelo, Ratu Timoci Namela was be the chief guest at the celebration.

The villagers of Nasilai are the traditional fisherman of the Tui Nakelo.
