Among the submissions made in Nasinu yesterday as part of the electoral law review, the Fiji Law Reform Commission was asked how it planned to handle the needs of the review process and intended reforms without amending the 2013 Constitution.
Savenaca Narube said their submission “acknowledges the reality that there is a 2013 Constitution”.
“I scratch my head and perhaps this has been explained before by the Commission, but how does this concept link with the amendment of the Constitution?” he said.
“What comes first?”
Mr Narube also announced their intention to legally challenge the 2013 Constitution.
“Unfortunately, until now, we haven’t had the will of the people.
“The decision by the Court of Appeal of the illegal actions by (Voreqe) Bainimarama remains unchanged and unchallenged.
“We wish to announce, in the context of these consultations, that Unity Fiji in partnership with organisations and individuals, will be challenging the legality of the Constitution in a court of law before the end of this year.”
He said they would consult widely – including with government – for this process.
