Nakelo rugby team will face Kasavu in the next challenge of the Tailevu Rugby Union Vanua Shield challenge after defeating Nuku 24-18 in a close match on Saturday.
Nuku led 18-17 in the last few minutes of the second half when unfortunately they kicked the ball out thinking it was time out.
A penalty try was awarded to Nakelo after their opponent kept collapsing the scrum one minute to full time giving Nakelo the victory.
Manager Peter Qarau said the players played well.
“We had committed a lot of mistakes in terms of not getting the basics right,” he said.
“There was no communication, we were playing individually.
“We were a bit upset on some of the calls made by the referee but I am glad the boys kept their cool despite being pressured.”
He said discipline was also an issue after they received one yellow card for a dangerous tackle.
Nakelo fullback Osea Qamasea was the star of the match after scoring a try, converted a try and a penalty kick.
Inoke Ravuca also scored a try which was converted by Waisea Narema – they led 14-3 in the first half.
