Incarcerated former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama did not make any unauthorised calls via his mobile phone, according to Fiji Corrections Services commissioner Dr Jalesi Nakarawa.

Dr Nakarawa confirmed this on Friday after allegations were raised that Bainimarama made phone calls at the Nasinu Correction Centre.

“There have been no calls,” Dr Nakarawa said.

“The SIM card was there, so we sent it for analysis but there have been no calls established.

“The police cybercrime unit came to take it, but they could not find any outside calls.”

Last month FCS issued a statement confirming a thorough investigation was carried out on the authorised use of Bainimarama’s mobile phone.

The High Court had allowed Bainimarama to use the phone to keep track of his pacemaker app.

Bainimarama is serving a one-year imprisonment term after being found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice over an issue involving the USP.
