Nadi boxer Ronald Naidu has been suspended from taking part in promotions for this year.

Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) chairman Subhash Appana confirmed that BCF suspended Naidu for not complying to the processes set. Naidu was scheduled to fight Nathan Singh in the Bula Boxing Promotion main bout in July this year.

Two days before the promotion, Naidu submitted a medical certificate to the promoter Alan Kumar stating he won’t be fit to take on Singh. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the situation as the promotion was on the line.

“We found it very unprofessional that he came less than two days before the program and showed a medical certificate,” Appana said.

“BCF has a process in place which requires the boxer to submit himself to a boxing commission doctor for a medical test.

“He wouldn’t answer his phone or his phone would have been off when we tried to contact him.”

The BCF chair says this will be Naidu’s only suspension and a repeated offence will not be tolerated.

“Given the gravity of the case and given the fact that there are not too many boxers and Naidu is a drawcard, the board has decided that he is on suspension and this will be his one and only suspension. If he does this again, he will be banned from boxing.”

Naidu will be able to return to the ring from January 1, 2023. Meanwhile, when contacted yesterday afternoon, Naidu says he is waiting for a written notice informing him about his suspension from BCF.
