Apart from the display of 7s rugby this weekend, a tree-planting event will be carried out at a primary school in Sigatoka before the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia Valley 7s tournament kicks off on Friday.
This was revealed by tournament coordinator Marika Kurisese who said they would be planting 300 fruiting trees at Waicoba District Primary School with Ministry of Forestry officials on Thursday.
“This is one of our sustainable projects which is called the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia Valley 7s Tree Planting Project,” he said.
“This will be held to advocate on the importance of tree planting and sustainable practices.”
Kurisese said they were looking forward to the project as much as they were to the 7s tournament.
“This will be held one day before the tournament, and we are looking forward to it.
“We are also thankful to the Ministry of Forestry for supplying us with the fruiting trees to carry out our project.”
Meanwhile, Kurisese mentioned profits from the tournament will go towards the maintenance and repair works of teachers’ quarters at Waicoba District Primary School and Sigatoka Valley Secondary School.
“Our teacher’s quarters at these two schools have been in bad shape for a while so we have taken up the initiative to repair and maintain them from the profits that we will generate from the tournament.”
