Pushing their bodies to the limit at the Sigatoka Sand Dunes paid off for the Nadroga women’s rugby side after they whipped Tailevu 34-12 in round 7 of the ANZ Marama Championship at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

Nadroga manager Vaula Cevua said the competition was what they expected and he was glad the extra effort they put into their preparations got them the win.

He said the team normally trained at Lawaqa Park but every Tuesday, the girls did the hard yards at the sand dunes.

“I believe that’s what got our girls fit and ready for the win today,” Cevua said.

He manages both the under-19 and the senior teams and said this year, they had many new players in the age group category.

“Some of them are playing rugby for the first time, but they’ve got real talent and we are working to get the best out of them.”

Nadroga captain Repeka Tauve said the game against Tailevu was a tough one.

“They have good skills and ball handling but we were really prepared for that and we got the win,” she said.

Tauve thanked all their supporters and family and friends for the tremendous support they have shown so far this season.

“This win is for them.”

In other matches played yesterday, Namosi beat Navosa 19-5 while Nadi Jets hammered Rewa 94-0.
