NADROGA Arya College is set to make a strong impression at this year’s Coca-Cola Games, bringing their largest ever team of eight athletes to compete in Suva.
Team manager Mere Tuicakau shared that the group includes seven girls and one boy, who will be participating in a range of track events.
The lone male athlete will compete in the sub-junior 400m, while the female athletes will take part in the 100m and 200m junior girls’ sprints, 400m junior and intermediate girls’ races, as well as the 4x100m intermediate girls’ relay.
“This is the biggest number we’ve taken so far,” Tuicakau said. “Despite the challenging weather, our athletes have been training hard and showing great resilience.”
Among the athletes, Mere Lalilevu stands out as one to watch. She will compete in the 200m and 400m intermediate girls’ races.
The team’s coaches are also motivated, aiming not just to participate but to leave a lasting impact. “We are here not only to compete but to leave a mark at this year’s Games,” they said.
Last year, Nadroga Arya College didn’t secure any medals, but this year the team is determined to change that. “We have a new mindset and goal — to bring home at least one gold medal,” Tuicakau added.
She also encouraged the school community, alumni, and supporters to come out and cheer on the athletes, emphasizing the importance of support for schools coming from more remote areas.
With their biggest contingent yet and a clear goal in sight, Nadroga Arya College is hopeful of making their mark at this year’s prestigious event.
