NADOGO overcame a number of challenges to secure a hard-fought 1-0 win over Taveuni on day two of the FMF Inter-District Championship yesterday.
Coach Rajesh Chand praised his players for their determination after overcoming the challenges they faced in preparing for the tournament.
Chand said many of his players live far apart, making it difficult to bring the full squad together for regular training.
“One major thing about Nadogo football is that the players are staying very far away from each other,” Chand said.
“We have to get time to meet and prepare. Collecting the full squad and training them is a big hassle because of the distance and the travelling cost.”
Despite those difficulties, Chand said the players remained committed and delivered when it mattered.
“I came with the mindset that my team would win today and they have done it,” he said.
“They made the district proud and their families proud.”
Chand also thanked the supporters who continued to back the team, both at the venue and from home.
While pleased with the result, he said there were areas Nadogo needed to improve before their next match.
“We need to focus on our midfield area. At times, it opens up and there are a lot of gaps created for the opposition,” he said. Chand also admitted his defenders looked nervous at times, forcing the team to make adjustments during the match.
He said the team would regroup and work on those areas before their next challenge.
Chand called on Nadogo supporters and families to continue backing the team as it aims to go further in the competition.
“We need your support in a big way,” he said.”Back home, our families, keep blessing us and we will do all that is needed to win the final.”
