Nadi Rugby Union is taking its campaign beyond the rugby field by reaching out to the community, with the senior men’s team visit to Loloma Home in Sabeto, Nadi today. The visit was aimed at connecting with the less fortunate in the community and reinforcing the union’s commitment to using rugby as a vehicle for positive social change.
Nadi Rugby Union vice-president Jeff Tamata said the visit was part of the union’s strategic plan launched last month, which places greater emphasis on community engagement.“As part of our strategic plan, which we launched last month, is reaching out to the community,” Tamata said.
The union has also been using its rugby platform to promote messages against drug abuse, with players wearing T-shirts carrying the anti-drug message.Tamata said the visit to Loloma Home was another step in ensuring Nadi Rugby remained connected with the wider community.
He said the initiative was significant because it was something the union had not done before. The Loloma Home visit follows Nadi Rugby’s visit to Dilkusha Home last week ahead of its Round 10 clash against Naitasiri.
Tamata said the union had decided to dedicate its matches to the less fortunate people in society as part of the initiative. He said the same message was shared during the visit to Loloma Home, with the remaining games of the season being dedicated to those in the community who needed support.
For Nadi Rugby, the initiative represents a broader vision for the union, with its responsibilities extending beyond results and competition. As the Nadi side prepares for its final Skipper Cup round-robin match against Rewa tomorrow, the union hopes its community work will continue to strengthen the relationship between the team and the people it represents.
