Chef Seeto shares some of the new places he’s recently discovered in Fiji that offer some pretty good food for this fussy eater.
If you’ve driven around Denarau Island recently you notice a new restaurant that’s opened up on the old Cardo’s pottery site called Bombay Lodge Curry House and Beer Garden. It looks like a Mexican cantina from the outside but inside it hides one of Fiji’s top Punjabi-cuisine chefs, Sumit Negis of Saffron and Jacks. Just as I thought that local Indian food was getting boring, chef Negis’ menu will have you wanting to order every dish on the menu!
From the prawn koliwada coated in tempered chickpea batter to the cute Punjabi samosas for starters, its hard not to order more entrees. If the cheese naan doesn’t tempt you, the lamb biryani with saffron-flavoured masala rice scented with rose petals or spicy goat or duck curry surely will. Service could be a little faster and I would’ve liked my drinks refreshed more often, but all in all, there’s little wonder why a lot of the executive chefs have been seen eating here regularly, including me.
