SAMEEM Ali has pleaded not guilty to a count of murder before High Court judge Justice Riyaz Hamza.
Mr Ali, who appeared without a lawyer, is charged with the murder of Firdosh Mohammed at Tomuka in Lautoka on March 5.
Prosecutor Sheenal Swastika told the court the State would not rely on Mr Ali’s caution interview and that there were no agreed facts in the case.
Justice Hamza told Mr Ali to engage a lawyer due to the seriousness of the offence, however, Mr Ali maintained he did not need one.
Ms Swastika objected to Mr Ali’s bail application on the grounds that one of the State’s witnesses was his de-facto partner and that there was a likelihood of interference.
The State will file and serve its affidavit in opposition to Mr Ali’s bail application by the next date. The case has been adjourned to May 8.
