A NEW multi-million-dollar resort will be built in Ba where the focus and resources will be placed on boosting sports tourism.

The $25million Racecourse Azure Lagoon Resort and Leisure Club by 4R Electrical and General Contractors is expected complement the town’s growing capabilities to host international sporting events at the 4R Stadium at Govind Park.

Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa said expanding sports tourism opportunities to Ba was encouraged through the active participation of the private sector.

“We always encourage more investments and participation from the private sector because they have the capital, the people and the capacity to engage in this type of development,” he said.

“One of the important features of Ba now they have got a legendary ground full of history and with the government redeveloping the sports ground has led to this type of development.

“Now there are some municipal councils that can also emulate some of the work that Ba Town Council has done.”

Project manager Rynal Kumar said the project was designed to create more economic opportunities for Ba by being a leading sports town.

“Since the opening of the redeveloped 4R Stadium, we’ve hosted a lot of successful sporting events,” said Mr Kumar.

“To complement that world-class facility the Racecourse Azure is a piece of that puzzle to provide accommodation for the teams and the fans alike.

“We hope to inspire others to join in with their own pieces to grow the town of Ba.”
