IN this changing world, people must aggressively embrace reforms and readjust their focus in alignment with the challenges of emerging threats.
Defence Minister Joketani Cokanasiga made the comment during the opening of the fourth Melanesian Spearhead Group Police Commissioners’ Conference in Nadi yesterday.
Officials from the four-member nations will discuss major issues faced by the police, including the department of peacekeeping operations concept, the upcoming police games, cultural events, police women’s network and a memorandum of agreement on information sharing.
“The inaugural Melanesia Games is set to take place in New Caledonia along with the fifth Melanesia Arts and Culture Festival taking place in Papua New Guinea this year,” he said.
“On the police women’s network, the MSG governing body has approved the leadership in women’s program.”
Mr Cokanasiga said the police games and cultural exchanges were avenues for fostering co-operation and integration.
