MSAF to start audit and inspections of all ships next month

The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji will commence audits and inspections of all shipping companies and their ships form May 26th.

MSAF CEO Joweli Cawaki said this will be done to verify their compliance to the Maritime (Safe Ship Management Systems) Regulation 2014.

“All shipping companies are required to prepare for the said audits and inspections and ensure that proper documentations are in order,” he stated in a notice issued on April 25.

“All the systems and procedures are implemented in accordance with the Maritime (Safe Ship Management Systems) Regulation 2014 before the said audit date.

“All shipping companies are hereby put on notice, pursuant to section 40 of the Maritime Transport Act 2013 and Regulation 18 of the Maritime (Safe Ship Management Systems) Regulations 2014 that ships will be detained for non-compliance to the above Regulation.”
