The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) is understaffed and under resourced to carry out its work in all parts of the country, says CEO Joeli Cawaki.

He told The Fiji Times’ online platform, The Lens @177, that since taking over as CEO three months ago, he noticed that MSAF needed to undergo a major reform.

“We are under staffed, and we are under resourced,” Mr Cawaki said.

“We should be at all corners of Fiji, unfortunately for us, we are not there.

“Our reach is very limited, and our coverage is very limited.

“We should be there in Lau, or an office in Vanuabalavu, an office in Lakeba, likewise for Kadavu and Rotuma and in other parts of Fiji.”

Mr Cawaki said MSAF aims to establish a long-term organisational structure to improve reach and coverage in Fiji and working with other government agencies in this regard.
