Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo will pursue the Attorney-General if Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka assigns him to the Ministry of Justice. Mr Vosarogo, who was informed of the reshuffle before its announcement, said he would wait for Mr Rabuka’s decision.

“I was informed last Friday afternoon about the reshuffle,” he said.

He told the media at Nawaqabena Village in Naitasiri that as a Cabinet minister he would go where he was assigned.

“When the Prime Minister gets into the country on the weekend, he will make the necessary announcement,” Mr Vosarogo said.

“It’s his appointment and his reassignments. As Cabinet ministers, we go to where we are assigned.

“So, for me I think it’s just prudent that I defer to him making any statement rather than coming from me.”

Mr Vosarogo said the Prime Minister had the authority to reassign portfolios.

“I again reiterate, when you sign up for Cabinet positions, you also sign again with the understanding that the Prime Minister can reassign your portfolio,” he said.

“And if he does the reassignment, as a responsible minister in the Cabinet, your job is to make sure the assignment is carried out.

“It’s a legal argument, but right now what we do is wait for the Prime Minister to come back and then he will make the call when he arrives back in the country.

“And if he makes the call that I stay, I will stay and if he makes the call that I’ll go, I will go. But I signed up for this, when I signed up for the election and I’d bleed for this country any day.”
