The Fiji Motorcyclists Association (FMA) is gearing up for its annual Movember campaign on November 14 in Suva, creating a critical platform to champion men’s mental health and cancer awareness. Spearheaded by FMA treasurer Faizeel Hussein, the national initiative aims to break the stigma surrounding men’s well-being and encourage open conversations among peers.
Now in its second consecutive year, the event serves a vital demographic, as men comprise roughly 80 per cent of the association’s rapidly growing nationwide network of 150 members. “It is a men’s awareness campaign, and it is about men’s mental health and cancer,” said Mr Hussein.
He emphasised that their association of riders who are mostly men, provided a comfortable space for members to open up as friends. The event focuses heavily on mental health awareness, urging men to talk through their struggles rather than suffering in silence.
Beyond driving critical health advocacy, the event is a massive fundraising vehicle. Building on the success of their inaugural campaign – where the FMA successfully raised and gave $9000 to the Fiji Cancer Society in 2025 – riders are looking to sustain that vital financial backing.
To maximise the event’s reach and safety impact, the association is executing the campaign in conjunction with key institutional partners, including the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Fiji Police Force. This collaborative approach ensures that while the primary focus remains firmly on prostate cancer and mental health awareness, the event also promotes responsible road safety across Fiji’s transport calendar.
With the countdown on for November 14, the association is calling on the community to support the cause, break societal stigmas, and help save lives through early screening and active dialogue.
