A Nadi mother is still reeling from the unexpected death of her youngest daughter who was swept away by strong currents alongside two others in Nadi last weekend.
Kinisimere Gonerogo said her daughter, Esther, had accompanied her neighbour on a fishing trip.
“This was the normal practice for my two daughters and our neighbour every school holiday,” a distraught Mrs Gonerogo said.
“It’s so painful and I still can’t believe that my daughter is gone.
“She was looking forward to celebrating her ninth birthday with us in a few weeks and it hurts us more that she is no more and there will be no one home to entertain us.”
Ms Gonerogo said her elder daughter, Cathy, the lone survivor from the tragic event, was also still trying to recover from the tragedy.
“The house is quiet and we will no longer hear Esther calling out our names to always check on us.
“But I’m also thankful that my elder daughter managed to survive the ordeal.”
Police indicted that the body of the little girl was retrieved from the Korociri River on Monday while the bodies of the 59-year-old woman and her seven-year-old granddaughter were recovered earlier. The trio will be laid to rest on Saturday.
