A GRIEVING mother is seeking answers after her 10-year-old son died alongside a close family friend in the devastating fire at Laucala Beach Estate, as she moves to correct reports that he had been adopted by the woman who lost her life in the blaze.
Forty-six-year-old Archana Sharma said her son, Kavisha Pranav Sharma, was not adopted by the late Shobna Devi Sharma, but had been staying with her, as a family friend of 18 years, while preparing for his LANA examinations.
Ms Sharma said Ms Devi was like family and she had a special bond with her son.
“She was our family friend, and my son used to stay with her on weekends,” Ms Sharma said.
“This time, he went there because Shobna (Ms Devi)asked me if he could go over to her home for his LANA revision.
“She really loved my son, and they were very close.”
Ms Sharma said she was expecting to bring her son home last Friday after Parents’ Day, but later received a call from Ms Devi asking her to buy groceries, medication and other items.
Ms Sharma said she was devastated by the loss and wanted answers about the circumstances surrounding the fire that claimed both their lives.
“I just really want to know how the fire started. I can’t believe that my child is gone. When I see my child, I can’t believe that I will see him like that — in that situation. So please, I need justice.”
Ms Sharma said she had not received any update from police regarding the investigations.
