Salome Dinokata is clinging on to hope that her son will return home soon.
Amani Maro, 33, did not return home after leaving for a fishing trip last Thursday night.
The 65-year-old said when her son left their home at Naivuruvuru Village in Verata, Tailevu, they were not aware he planned to go out fishing with a young boy from the village.
“At 3pm on Saturday the young boy came home to look for Amani, and that is how we realised he was missing.
“According to the boy, Amani had asked him to wait in the boat, while he went spearfishing. The boy then fell off to sleep.
“So he woke up and after seeing no sign of Amani, he returned to the village.
“He thought Amani had left him there.
“On Saturday afternoon, he came to ask for Amani, we told him that he still hasn’t returned home since last Thursday night.”
Her husband then reported the matter to the Korovou Police Station.
“The police came around 9pm and started taking down statements from people.
“Amani was the youngest of my six children and was kind and loving. I believe he will come back home.”
Police spokeswoman, Ana Naisoro said the police search was still negative.
