The High Court in Suva says more time is needed to complete the psychiatric report of a man accused of murdering a 28-year-old woman earlier last month.

Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu made the remark yesterday in the case of Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, who underwent a psychiatric evaluation two weeks ago.

It is alleged that on September 8 this year, Mr Cilicewa had a heated argument with Shabreen Shain Ali during which he used an object to injure her, causing her death.

Justice Bulamainaivalu said the court had received a letter from Dr Kiran Gaikwad requesting more time to complete Mr Cilicewa’s evaluation. The court granted 14 days for this.

The judge also noticed another request from the doctor for the accused’s charge sheet and disclosure.

Justice Bulamainaivalu said the information could be provided to Dr Gaikwad, but was hesitant to release the disclosures since these were confidential documents which would be used in the trial.

Defence lawyer Atama Waqanivavalagi said his client was yet to receive the requested documents, namely the photograph of the alleged crime scene.

State prosecutor Zenith Zunaid said three more weeks were needed due to other pending investigations.

Mr Cilicewa’s bail application would be filed once his psychiatric report is furnished to the court.

He has been remanded in custody and the case adjourned to November 18.
