More than just a market

THE new Seaqaqa Market will include 50 vendor stalls and a range of modern facilities, says Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for the market yesterday, Mr Nalumisa said it would be more than just a place to sell goods.

“It will be a vibrant centre, a place of connection and exchange,” Mr Nalumisa said.

He said the market would have a dedicated section for fresh produce, handicrafts, fish and accessible sanitation facilities, including showers and amenities for persons with disabilities.

“This place belongs to everyone,” he said, adding a new bus stand would also be built as part of the development.

“It will improve daily travel for commuters and provide greater convenience for the people of Seaqaqa and nearby communities.

“This development will become the beating heart of the township.”

Mr Nalumisa said there would also be designated spaces for carriers, taxis and marketing purposes.

The market and bus stand are part of a $1.7million government investment and are expected to be completed by the end of next year.
